DeWalt DCS367 vs DCS387
The DeWalt 20V MAX XR Brushless Compact Reciprocating Saw (DCS367B) and the DeWalt 20V MAX Compact Reciprocating Saw (DCS387B) look like near twins. Both are tool-only 20V MAX compact reciprocating saws in the "$100–200" price tier, and both fit between studs. DeWalt's pages show the differences are mainly in the motor and a few details. This is a comparison of published specifications, not of use.
What they share
DeWalt lists the same stroke length (1-1/8 inch) and the same top speed (up to 2,900 strokes per minute, set by a variable-speed trigger) on both. Each has a 4-position blade clamp, a bright LED and a 3-year limited warranty. Neither includes a battery or charger, and both run on all 20V MAX batteries.
What differs
The DCS367B is the XR brushless model. DeWalt states up to 2.5x more runtime than its DC385, a different saw from the DCS387B, and describes the blade clamp as keyless. It is listed at 14.5 inches long and 5 lbs without a battery. The DCS387B is listed at 14 inches overall. DeWalt lists the DCS387B motor as brushed. The DCS387B page adds a pivoting shoe and says its clamp allows flush cutting.
That means the main trade is motor technology. A brushless motor generally runs more efficiently and has no brushes to wear. DeWalt publishes no runtime comparison between these two saws. The extra half inch of length on the DCS367B matters little unless you are working in very tight cavities.
Using them
For demolition, cutting pipe or trimming framing, either saw covers it. If you run a saw often or for long stretches, the brushless motor is the thing to weigh. For occasional use, the difference may not matter to you. See best one-handed reciprocating saws for other compact choices.

Our Verdict
Buy the DCS367B if
- You want the brushless motor, which generally runs more efficiently and has no brushes to wear.
- You will use the saw often enough that motor efficiency and wear matter.

Buy the DCS387B if
- You use a reciprocating saw only occasionally, accept a brushed motor, and it is clearly cheaper when you check prices.

Because both are in the same price tier, the brushless DCS367B is the stronger default on paper. Choose the DCS387B only if it is clearly cheaper on the day. Check current prices on both before deciding, and remember a battery is extra with either one. See also reciprocating saws.
