On paper this is a high-torque, well-equipped kit with two batteries and a fast charger. It suits heavy drilling and driving, provided you are happy to commit to the Flex 24V battery platform.
This review is based on the manufacturer's specifications, not on hands-on use. The Flex 24V Brushless 1/2" Drill Driver Kit with Turbo Mode (FX1171T-2B) is a 1/2-inch drill driver aimed at heavy drilling and driving.
Specifications
Flex lists a Sensor-Free brushless motor, a maximum torque of 1,400 in-lbs, and 22 clutch settings plus a drill position. No-load speed is 0-550 RPM in low and 0-2,000 RPM in high. Turbo mode raises that to 0-700 and 0-2,500 RPM. The chuck is a 1/2-inch metal single-sleeve keyless ratchet. Flex gives the length as 7 inches and the weight without a battery as 3.7 lbs, and the tool has a built-in LED and anti-kickback braking that detects jams.
What is in the box
Flex lists the driver, a 2.5Ah battery, a 5.0Ah battery, a 160W fast charger, a side handle, a bit holder, a belt clip and a case. Two batteries of different capacity is a useful pairing: the 2.5Ah for light work and the 5.0Ah for long jobs. Flex also sells a tool-only version.
Platform and warranty
The kit works within the Flex 24V system. Flex lists a 5-year limited warranty if the product is registered within 30 days, and 3 years without registration. This is a bigger commitment to one platform than a tool on a more common 18V or 20V system, and it is worth checking that Flex 24V fits the other tools you want. The kit is in the "$200+" price tier.
Who it suits
The torque rating and metal chuck suit remodeling, deck building and large-bit drilling more than casual shelf hanging. For light household use, a cheaper drill covers the need.
