Bosch GDX18V-1860CN Two-in-One Impact Review

This review is based on the manufacturer's specifications, not on hands-on use. The Bosch 18V Two-in-One 1/4" and 1/2" Impact Driver/Wrench (GDX18V-1860CN) combines a 1/4-inch hex bit holder and a 1/2-inch square drive in one bare tool, so it takes both bits and sockets without an adapter.

Specifications

Bosch lists the brushless motor at up to 1,860 in-lbs of torque and up to 4,100 impacts per minute. Three speed and torque settings run at 0-1,100, 0-2,300 and 0-3,400 RPM. The tool is listed at 5.8 inches long and 2.6 lbs. Bosch recommends its GBA18V40 and GBA18V80 batteries.

Modes and features

There are preset modes for self-drilling metal screws and wood screws, plus custom modes set through the app. Auto Bolt Release stops rotation when there is no load, which helps keep nuts and bolts from dropping during removal. The tool has a single LED at the base and electronic cell and motor protection. The Bluetooth connectivity module, which links to the PRO360 app, is sold separately.

Bosch lists the tool, a bit holder and a belt clip. There is no battery or charger, so you add your own 18V Bosch packs. Bosch lists a five-year limited warranty on its 18V bare tools. The tool is in the "$100–200" price tier.

Who it suits

The appeal is carrying one tool for both fastening screws and turning sockets on small bolts, which suits automotive and equipment work and general repairs. If you already own a separate impact driver and wrench, the second drive saves less. If you want high-torque lug-nut work, a dedicated 1/2-inch impact wrench is the more usual choice.
